Environmental
Committee Meeting May 23, 2005
Meeting held at the home of Deb Grubb 7:30 pm
Present: Fern Bouthot, Audra Crawford, Peg Goddard, Deb Grubb, Lynn Raeburn, Lesley Steventon, Dave Thomas substituting for Jacqueline Thomas
The minutes from the April 4, 2005 were emailed to the EC Board.
Old Business:
Greenhead boxes: Placement of the boxes took place with the help of Moody Point volunteers Saturday morning, May 14, 2005. Monitoring of the boxes to evaluate their effectiveness will take place.
Culverts: Rick Malazky still is scheduled to walk the trail and evaluate the culverts etc in the beginning of June with Lynn Raeburn.
Meadow East backyard drainage: AMB has dug a trench and lined it with large stones and has redirected the free standing water which had accumulated between the Mills and the Bestani properties. The level of the walking path has also been raised in that area in an attempt to have the water find a new direction.
New Business:
Entrance “1” to the trail: a six foot wide access path to the walking trail has been redirected to accommodate the new duplex being built. The birch trees have been spared.
Renumbering of the trail heads: Recommended to correspond with the culvert numbering west to east.
Budget: The EC had been allotted $3,500 for the 2004/2005 fiscal year. No dollar amount to date has been spent by the EC. Based on anticipated spending, it is recommended that we request the same amount for the EC budget for the next fiscal year. It was also recommended that a specific maintenance list be compiled to allocate next year’s funds. It was noted that this list will include the need to address rotted boards on the bridge, fixing of the railing on the trail overlooking the marsh, town dump permits, garbage bags and possibly box lunches, etc for volunteers who help with such tasks as shoreline clean-up.
Earl West Environmental: The $13,000 allotted for the MPCA’s maintenance plan recommended continued removal of invasive species, new growth (tree seedlings), meadow cuttings, maintain view from decks, and look at the white pines stands at the point.
Phragmatis Study: Chuck Dennehy informed the EC that Philson Glantz, a retired UNH professor, who has been studying invasive growth at Moody Point for the past for years would like to continue this study. Should this be allowed? Does he need another Moody point person for assistance if he were to continue? There are bags present on the periphery of the trail which hold invasive material that had been gathered. Should these bags be disposed of?
Spring Shoreline clean-up: Due the presence of debris along the shoreline, it was recommended that a shoreline clean-up the morning of June 25 be carried out.
Trail Mowing: It was recommended that Bob Blanchett be reminded that the trail needed mowing on a regular basis especially since the ticks are out in force.
Next meeting: June 27 2005 at the home of Deb Grubbs, 7:30 pm.
